Scholars' Bowl is a competition in which students are required to answer trivia questions in various categories. A Scholars' Bowl team consists of 4 competing students and 2 alternates. One of these students is designated as the captain. The captain's only responsibility that is different than the rest of the team members is that he can protest questions and answers. The alternates rotate with the other players so a 4 member team is always competing. During the worksheet round, all 6 members may participate.
Our matches consist of 4 rounds. Round one is the toss-up round, each question is worth 5 points each. Round two consists of a bonus question. Each question is worth 10 points. If your team answers correctly, you are given a four part bonus question worth 20 points. Round three is the worksheet - twenty questions worth 5 points each; both teams answer their worksheet and both receive points for correct answers. This is different from the other rounds where you are competing against each other with buzzers; first person to buzz in can answer. If a team answers incorrectly, the other team can buzz in and steal the question. The final round is the lightning round; each question is worth 15 points. This round can make you or break you - the questions are worth a great deal more.
Senior High Scholars Bowl consists of students in grades 9-12 who are invited to join. Scholars Bowl meets every Wednesday in the Fall after school, and once a month during club meetings.
